Peeking Lady Moura

Monaco, 2005. The famous harbor where the rich and famous watched the Formula One race from their private yacht or from the balcony of a five-star hotel nearby.  We were there, alright. Not to watch the race… just to enjoy an ice cream cone while daydreaming to be the rich and famous. Yeah rite… dream on!

Ready to Rumble

Taken in a small village in Bali, about six years ago. Cockfighting is very popular in Bali. It has a religious aspect for the Hindu followers, where they make offerings to the Gods. Mostly attended by male, my husband got a rare opportunity to see one with our friend, Steve. Hubby said that it was [almost] the most surreal experience for him. “The combination of the scent and the noise, made your adrenalin rush,” he said.

The Runaway Bride

chika's wedding nov 06

Snapped this picture as Chika hurried and ranaway (with Derrie, the groom, don’t worry) to the changing room. They just got done with akad nikah -wedding- and need to change their clothes for the reception in just the next couple of hours. The wedding and the reception were in two different cultures (west Java and central Java). I know it doesn’t sound like much of a difference. But it was -especially for the bride; make up, hair do, and outfit- required for all of us the family to change outfit.

Tea, Anybody?

Itaewon South Korea by Diny

With the weather’s getting colder, I feel the urge of sipping tea more frequently. My number one preference would be Teh Sostro from back home. But of course, it’s a rare item in the United States, and the Asian food store here were out of stock last time I check.

With ‘tea spirit’ in mind, I chose this one as the PicOfTheWeek. I was in Seoul, South Korea last year on my way home to Indonesia. Stopped by at Itaewon, one of the tourist attractions, and snapped this picture simply by the amazement of how pretty they are. Ginseng tea, green tea, this tea, and that tea… waiting for you to sample.

Tuan Mahesa

Presenting… Tuan Mahesa (Tuan means ‘Sir’ in Bahasa) as the PicOfThe Week this week. Why? Because his mom -my sister Chika- has finally decided to email me some pics of him. Only about 5 weeks after he was born *sarcastically speaking*

Anyway… I’m so glad to finally see his picture. Tuan Mahesa is exactly like what I had pictured in mind. Chubby wubby and cute. Just look at those cheeks… makes you want to pinch, doesn’t it? And the way he looks at you… I think my nephew is a good looking boy!

Linnette’s Jamaican Kitchen

I’ve been craving Jamaica lately; the food, the beaches, and the people. We went to this Jamaican restaurant in Chicago, 2003. Unsure if it still exist or not. I sure hope so.

The Boy and His Sparklers

Dante is this week’s POTW because he’s going to have a birthday tomorrow. Fifth birthday, mind you. Very monumental, in my opinion.

Whacky CD Store

pics by Diny Patterson

Just need something bright and colorful for this week. Picture was taken in Curacao, 2003. I actually don’t mind having a wall like this at home. Possibly at the backyard, with my tropical-themed garden *not

Sure is nice to have when old man winter hits Iowa…

Go Cyclones!

  gocyclones

Go Cyclones! is the theme of this week. We’re having a home game against our arch enemy, University of Iowa’s Hawkeyes. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 15 at 12:30 pm. This picture was actually taken this summer from the Independence Day parade. They’re ISU’s dance team and were doing the routine. So I thought, why the heck not use it?

Hard Worker Jakartan

  hard labor in jakarta

Tomorrow is the US Labor Day. That’s why I chose this one as this week’s POTW. It reminds me to be grateful for my job and what I have now. The guy in the picture is tukang sampah or the garbage guy. He collects garbages in his little cart then takes it to the garbage dump. To be noted: Jakarta’s climate is hot and humid (not to mention polluted), and that he probably had to walk god-knows-how-many-miles a day.
